Tip calculator
Enter the bill, choose a tip and say how many people are paying. Tick the box to round each person's share up to an even dollar.
How much to tip in Canada
| Bill | 15% | 18% | 20% | 25% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $50 | $7.50 | $9.00 | $10.00 | $12.50 |
| $100 | $15.00 | $18.00 | $20.00 | $25.00 |
At restaurants in Canada, 15% to 20% is the usual range for table service. Payment terminals often suggest higher amounts, but you can always choose a custom tip.
Before or after tax?
Many people tip on the amount before GST, HST or PST. On a $100 meal, an 18% tip on the pre-tax amount is $18. Tipping 18% on a total of $113 (with 13% HST) would be $20.34.
Frequently asked questions
How do I split the bill fairly?
Enter the number of people and the calculator divides the bill and tip equally. Tick the rounding box if you want each share to be a whole dollar; the extra goes to the tip.
How do I work out 15% quickly?
Take 10% by moving the decimal point one place left, then add half of that again. On a $60 bill, 10% is $6 and half is $3, so 15% is $9.
